- Vegetarian Formula: Both Kendamil and Bobbie are vegetarian-friendly, making them great options for families who prefer plant-based diets. Kendamil uses plant-based DHA and ARA from algae instead of fish oil, while Bobbieβs formula is free from animal-derived ingredients. This commitment ensures both formulas provide essential nutrition while supporting vegetarian diets.
- No Palm Oil: Palm oil has been a controversial ingredient in baby formulas due to potential digestive issues. Both Kendamil and Bobbie avoid using palm oil, opting for alternative fats that are easier on your baby's digestive system and less likely to cause constipation.
- Non-GMO: Parents concerned about genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can rest easy with both formulas. Kendamil and Bobbie ensure their products are non-GMO, providing peace of mind that their ingredients have not been genetically engineered.

Differences Between Kendamil and Bobbie
Choosing the right baby formula involves understanding not only the similarities but also the distinct differences between the available options. Kendamil European Formula and Bobbie Formula each offer unique features tailored to different preferences and needs. Hereβs a detailed comparison of how these two popular formulas differ:
| Feature | Kendamil European Formula | Bobbie Formula |
|---|---|---|
| Source of Milk | Organic whole milk | Organic nonfat (skimmed) milk |
| Manufacturing Standards | Adheres strictly to European regulations | Meets FDA regulations |
| Prebiotics | Includes GOS (galactooligosaccharides) | None |
| Sustainability Practices | Focuses on ethical sourcing and sustainability | Emphasizes organic certification but less focus on specific sustainability practices |
| Variety | Offers a cow and goat milk formula | It has only cow formula |
| Formulation Stage | Multiple Stages | Single-stage formula |
- Source of Milk:
- Kendamil: Kendamil ingredients include organic whole milk from grass-fed cows in the UK, offering a rich and creamy texture that closely resembles breast milk. This use of whole milk provides additional nutrients and healthy fats, essential for your baby's growth and development.
- Bobbie: Bobbie formula ingredients use organic nonfat (skimmed) milk as the base, supplemented with added vegetable oils to achieve the desired fat content. This method ensures the formula meets nutritional requirements while maintaining a balance of essential nutrients.
- Manufacturing Standards:
- Kendamil: adheres strictly to European regulations, which have their own set of stringent standards and allowances for ingredients. This can mean a different approach to nutrient fortification and ingredient selection compared to American standards.
- Bobbie: follows a hybrid approach, meeting both FDA and European regulations. This dual compliance ensures that Bobbie adheres to the high standards of both regulatory frameworks, providing a well-rounded and safe formula for infants.
- Prebiotics:
- Kendamil European Formula: Kendamil includes GOS (galactooligosaccharides), a type of prebiotic that promotes healthy digestion and supports the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. Prebiotics are important for developing a healthy digestive system and can contribute to better overall gut health.
- Bobbie Formula: Bobbie does not include prebiotics in its formulation. While the absence of prebiotics means it may not offer the same digestive benefits as Kendamil, the formula still provides essential nutrients for growth and development.
- Sustainability Practices:
- Kendamil European Formula: Kendamil places a strong emphasis on ethical sourcing and sustainability. The brandβs commitment to reducing environmental impact and supporting sustainable farming practices reflects a broader concern for ecological responsibility, which may be appealing to environmentally conscious parents.
- Bobbie Formula: Bobbie focuses on organic certification, ensuring that the ingredients meet high organic standards. However, it puts less emphasis on specific sustainability practices than Kendamil. While the formula is organic, the brand's sustainability efforts might be less pronounced.
- Variety:
- Kendamil European Formula: Kendamil offers a variety of formulas, including cow and goat milk options like the Kendamil Goat Formula. This gives parents the flexibility to choose what suits their baby best, especially if there's a sensitivity to cowβs milk. The Kendamil Ready to Feed formula also provides a convenient option for quick and easy feeding.
- Bobbie Formula: Currently, it offers only cow milk formulas, which are Bobbie Organic Infant Formula and Bobbie Sensitive Formula. While this simplifies the product line and provides a consistent option for most babies, it may not cater to parents seeking alternatives like goat milk for specific dietary needs or sensitivities.
- Formulation Stage:
- Kendamil European Formula: Kendamil offers a range of formulas designed to meet the nutritional needs of babies at different stages of development.
- Stage 1 (Newborn): Kendamil Stage 1 formula is specifically tailored for newborns, providing all the essential nutrients needed for the first months of life.
- Stage 2 (Follow-on): Kendamil Stage 2 formula is designed for babies aged 6 months and older. It offers a balanced mix of vitamins and minerals to support your babyβs growth as they begin to explore new foods.
- Stage 3 (Growing Up): Kendamil Stage 3 formula, also known as Kendamil Toddler Milk, is ideal for toddlers aged 12 months and above. It helps bridge the gap between milk and solid foods, ensuring your child continues to receive the necessary nutrients during their early years.
These staged formulations ensure that your baby receives age-appropriate nutrition at every phase of development.

Kendamil vs Bobbie β FAQ
Is Kendamil or Bobbie better for my baby?+
Both are excellent, clean-label formulas. Kendamil wins on ingredient depth: whole milk MFGM, naturally occurring HMOs (3'-GL), soy-free, triple organic certification, and staged formulas that adapt to your baby's age. Bobbie wins on convenience: US-made, Clean Label contaminant testing, available at Target, and offers a gentle option with partially hydrolyzed protein for sensitive tummies. For a healthy baby with no special dietary needs, Kendamil provides more bioactive compounds. For a baby needing a gentle formula or parents who value US manufacturing and instant retail access, Bobbie is the better fit.
What is Bobbie Organic Whole Milk and how does it compare to Kendamil?+
Launched in 2025, Bobbie Organic Whole Milk uses a whole milk base similar to Kendamil's β meaning it contains MFGM naturally. It's priced at $28/can (400g). Key differences remain: Kendamil still has HMOs (3'-GL) while Bobbie Whole Milk does not, Kendamil is soy-free while Bobbie contains soy oil, and Kendamil comes in 800g cans ($1.55/oz) vs Bobbie's 400g cans ($1.99/oz). Bobbie Whole Milk adds Clean Label Project contaminant testing and US manufacturing. This is the closest direct competitor to Kendamil Organic on the market.
Is Kendamil cheaper than Bobbie per ounce?+
Yes. Per ounce of powder: Kendamil Classic = $1.29/oz, Kendamil Organic = $1.55/oz, Bobbie Original = $1.77/oz, Bobbie Whole Milk = $1.99/oz. The confusion comes from can price β Bobbie's $25 can looks cheaper than Kendamil's $43.60 can, but Bobbie's can is half the size (400g vs 800g). When you compare per-ounce, Kendamil Classic is 27% cheaper than Bobbie Original, and Kendamil Organic is 22% cheaper than Bobbie Whole Milk.
Does Bobbie have HMOs?+
No. As of May 2026, none of Bobbie's three formulas (Original, Gentle, Whole Milk) contain HMOs. Kendamil contains 3'-Galactosyllactose (3'-GL), a naturally occurring HMO from organic cow's milk lactose. Similac 360 Total Care contains 5 synthetic HMOs. This is one of Kendamil's remaining advantages over Bobbie now that Bobbie has matched the whole milk base.
Can I switch from Bobbie to Kendamil (or vice versa)?+
Yes β both use lactose as the primary carbohydrate and similar fat profiles, making the transition relatively smooth. Transition gradually over 5β7 days (75/25 β 50/50 β 25/75 β 100%). If switching from Bobbie Gentle (hydrolyzed protein) to standard Kendamil, go slower β your baby's gut needs time to adjust to intact protein. You may notice slight changes in stool color and consistency; this is normal. If switching from Kendamil to Bobbie, note that Bobbie is single-stage β there's no Stage 2 to transition to at 6 months.
Does Bobbie contain soy? Does Kendamil?+
Bobbie Original, Gentle, and Whole Milk all contain soy oil (organic soybean oil or organic soy lecithin) as part of their fat blend. Kendamil is 100% soy-free β no soy oil, no soy lecithin, no soy protein. For families avoiding soy (due to allergy risk, phytoestrogen concerns, or personal preference), this is a meaningful difference. Note: soy oil is highly refined and typically considered safe even for babies with soy allergy, but consult your pediatrician.
My baby has gas and fussiness β Kendamil or Bobbie Gentle?+
For gas and fussiness, Bobbie Organic Gentle ($30/can) is specifically designed with partially hydrolyzed whey protein β the proteins are broken down into smaller pieces for easier digestion. Kendamil doesn't have a gentle/hydrolyzed formula available in the US. However, if you prefer a European approach, HiPP Comfort offers hydrolyzed protein plus reduced lactose, which addresses both protein sensitivity and lactose issues. See our colic formula guide for more options.
What is Clean Label certification, and does Kendamil have it?+
Clean Label Project certification means the formula has been independently tested for 400+ contaminants including heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury), pesticides, and BPA. Bobbie holds this certification; Kendamil does not. However, Kendamil is manufactured under EU regulations, which set strict maximum limits for contaminants in infant formula. EU limits for lead (0.020 mg/kg) and cadmium (0.010 mg/kg) in infant formula are among the strictest in the world. Both approaches provide safety assurance through different mechanisms β third-party testing vs regulatory compliance.

This completely changed my perspective on how much ingredient quality can differ between formulas. I didnβt realize things like whole milk sources and oils used could make such a big difference in choosing whatβs best for my baby.

We tried both Kendamil and Bobbie because I kept seeing them compared everywhere. Kendamil felt a little richer and my baby seemed more satisfied after feeds, but Bobbie was easier to keep on hand without stressing about stock. I didnβt notice a huge difference in digestion, just small things like gas and spit-up. Both worked. It came down to what fit our routine better.

Our baby did really well on Kendamil and seemed more satisfied after feeds. I think the creamy whole milk base made a difference for us. Bobbie was fine too, but it felt a bit lighter and our baby wanted to feed more often on it. Also noticed Kendamil was easier to scoop and mix for us, especially during those rushed nighttime bottles.
